Workshop Orientation

All participants are invited to attend the opening National Jazz Workshop orientation session.

Concert: NJW All-star Alumni Band

The National Jazz Workshop All-star Alumni kicks off this year's program with a special concert featuring an array of jazz standards.

Student Jam Sessions

Various Locations

All National Jazz Workshop students are invited to play in an array of student jam sessions outside and/or in Ruebush Hall, Rooms 128 and 146, as well as Armstrong Hall, Room 39.

Performance Track students participate in Remedial Jazz Theory, Beginning Jazz Theory, Intermediate Jazz Theory and Advanced Jazz Theory classes with various National Jazz Workshop faculty. 

Arranging Track

Arranging Track students participate in Jazz Arranging classes with National Jazz Workshop faculty member Mike Tomaro.

Recording & Production Track

Recording & Production Track students participate in Recording Techniques classes with National Jazz Workshop faculty member Golder O'Neill.

Performance Track

Performance Track students participate in Beginning Jazz Improvisation, Intermediate Jazz Theory, Advanced Jazz Improvisation classes, as well as drum set, bass, piano and guitar masterclasses with National Jazz Workshop faculty.

Concerts & Masterclasses

Armstrong Concert Hall

Steve Williams' Mighty Little Big Band (Monday), the Eric Byrd Trio (Wednesday) and the Joe Henson Trio with special guest Sherrie Miracle (Thursday) present a series of special afternoon concerts for Performance Track students. Participants will attend saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm section masterclasses with National Jazz Workshop faculty on Tuesday.

Masterclasses & Concerts

Various Locations

National Jazz Workshop participants will attend saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm section masterclasses on Monday and Thursday, enjoy free time on Tuesday and attend a concert by the Fairfax Band on Wednesday.

Dinner

Enjoy dinner with other National Jazz Workshop participants in the Allen Dining Hall on Shenandoah University's main campus.

Concerts

Armstrong Concert Hall

The U.S. Navy Commodores (Monday), the Mike Tomaro Big Band (Tuesday) and Ashlin Parker's Trumpet Mafia (Thursday) present special concerts for all National Jazz Workshop participants. Students are invited to enjoy extra free time, organized activities and additional jam session on Wednesday.
